Quick ReREcolor -Tutorial Pic-

This image [link] was used for coloring practice by syncro-01001010 who made this [link] , so then I decided to do some quick improvements on that pic and made this. So... it's a tutorial image based on a crappy sketch, basically.

TUTORIAL PART:
Technique:

So what I did here was choose a shadow color (dark blue), make a color box in the corner for easy selection, then I chose the blending brush and set it to something like 15% or so. First I would go over the entire area I wanted to be darker without lifting up my finger, then I'd go over the areas I wanted to be REALLY dark. I chose to select the entire image and just color within the lines, and normally the lines would be on a separate layer so they would be unaffected.

Lighting:

The ball in the corner represents how light is hitting 3D objects in this image; stuff facing upwards or to the right is bright, and the farther away from the viewer it's facing the brighter I made it.

Shading:

For shading I first darkened everything facing away from the light, then I went over it again to try and cast shadows from body part to body part; see on the right boob the edge is dark because of shadow from the arm? I only do it for objects that are really close together because it gets hard to judge otherwise, not to mention the shadow would be mostly dispersed from weak light coming from other angles. Done correct these shadows can really help add curvature and 3D-ness to the objects they hit.
It's especially important to darken nooks and crannies because since they are surrounded on most sides, they will be getting virtually no light (not even the weak light from the blue sky). A good example would be her neck and her darker leg.

PS: The boobs and the collar tag really shouldn't be that bright as they are facing away or covered from the light, but that's where the term "artistic liberty" comes in.
